About Dalkom Somalia

We have been here the whole time

Dalkom Somalia has carried this country’s international traffic since 2003 — through every change of circumstance since. That is not a marketing line; it is the reason we own a landing station, a teleport and a data centre instead of reselling somebody else’s.

How we got here

Two decades, built in the order things had to be built

Each of these only became possible because the one before it existed. That sequencing is why the assets sit on one compound rather than in four different arrangements.

2003

Carrying international traffic

Dalkom begins carrying Somalia’s international communications at a point when very little formal infrastructure existed to carry it on. Everything that follows is built on having stayed through that period rather than arrived after it.

2013

Our own cable landing station

The first submarine cable lands at our own station in Mogadishu. Owning the landing point — rather than buying capacity from whoever does — is the single decision that everything else on this site rests on.

2018

The teleport

A C- and Ku-band satellite hub on the same compound, so that satellite traffic hands onto subsea capacity inside one building. Almost everyone else selling satellite into Somalia routes it through a hub in another country.

Today

Two megawatts of data centre

Carrier-neutral colocation cross-connected to four submarine systems in the same building — which is what finally made it possible for a Somali institution to keep its records in Somalia without accepting a worse facility to do it.

Next

Earth observation and ground segment

The same ground infrastructure that carries communications can bring down and process satellite imagery. Earth observation services are already delivering, and ground-segment capacity is being expanded on committed dates.

How we work

Three things we will not trade away

01

We own the path

Where we sell a service, we own the infrastructure underneath it or we tell you whose it is. Reselling something and implying otherwise is the practice this market suffers most from.

02

The engineers are Somali

Our operations centre is staffed by people who live in Mogadishu. Nobody is flown in to look at a fault, and the capability stays in the country between incidents.

03

We commit in writing

Every service comes with a delivery date, a service level and a named engineer. Where capacity is still being commissioned, its in-service date is written into the contract — so what you plan against is what you get.

Come and look

The compound is the argument

Everything on this site can be checked by standing in one place on Airport Road. If you are evaluating us seriously, that visit will tell you more than any document we could send.
