Landing a cable is the easy half

Carrying what comes ashore to the operators, banks, ministries and broadcasters who need it is the hard half — in a country where most of the route has to be built rather than leased. Protected rings instead of single paths, and our own autonomous system instead of transit resold to us.

The network

Built, not leased

A backbone you rent is a backbone somebody else decides the priorities for. Ours is our own plant, which is slower to build and considerably better to depend on.

  • Metro rings in Mogadishu — buildings are reached on a protected path, so a single break does not take a customer down.
  • National backbone — capacity carried from the landing station outward, rather than handed to a third party at the city limit.
  • Our own autonomous system — we peer directly, so routing decisions and their consequences are ours.
  • Onward reach — four regional footprints beyond Somalia through our WIOCC shareholding.

The day it matters

What happens when a fibre is cut

Every network is fine until something is dug up. The topology you bought decides what the next twenty minutes look like.

On a spur

The site goes dark and stays dark

A point-to-point circuit has one path. When it breaks, service stops until somebody physically repairs it — and the clock starts when a crew is found, not when the break happens.

On a ring

Traffic turns the other way

A protected ring has two directions. The break is detected and traffic re-routes around it, usually before anyone has finished writing the ticket. The repair still has to happen; the outage does not.

On our plant

The repair crew works for us

Because the fibre is ours, the restoration is our decision and our crew. Nobody is waiting on a third party’s priority list to find out when they will be back.

Onward reach

Beyond Somalia, through WIOCC

Dalkom is a shareholder in WIOCC, which is how traffic leaving our backbone reaches the rest of the continent and the routes off it. We name the mechanism because it is a shareholding, not a network we built.

Reaching your buildings

Send us the addresses. We will tell you what reaches them.

Give us the sites you need connected and we will come back with what is already on ring, what needs a build, what that build takes, and where satellite is the more honest answer.
